On this day, 20 years ago NASA launched the space shuttle Challenger. Just 73 seconds after liftoff the vehicle exploded. All seven astronauts; Commander Frances R. Scobee, Pilot Michael J. Smith, Mission Specialist Judith A. Resnik, Mission Specialist Ellison S. Onizuka, Mission Specialist Ronald E. McNair, Payload Specialist Gregory B. Jarvis, and the first ever teacher to go into space S. Christa Corrigan McAuliffe, were killed.
