sunspot
In a very general sense men and women both lie for the needs of the other. Woman lie with physical illusions like makeup, hair, pushup bra, colors, etc., all of which are intended to create an illuison of enhanced beauty. Men like women to lie this way. Men would prefer natural beauty but the illusion works better than the reality of being natural average. Men, on the other hand, lie via verbal make-up, to create an illuison of enhanced personna. Women like men to lie this way. Women would prefer the weathy, ambitious, loving, etc., perfect man, but the illusion will work better than the reality of being average. Women often take advantage of male lying when they ask questions like, "do I look fat in this?". They do not want the truth but a light gray lie. Men take advantage of female lying when they ask their significant other to dress up in something sexy. These coping/lying skills, based on male/female interaction appear to spin-off into culture. Entertainment is there to create an illusion that combines both the costumes and the verbal illusions. Politics at all levels appears to be based this need to lie/cope.
