asvand Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 If theoretically, the Usa had to fight the 1940 german army, with their current army, how would they go about doing it? Assuming they wouldent nuke berlin, how would they go about doing it? I guess they would soften up all areas with persision bombing and cruise missiles, and then go in at night with night vision. Any other Ideas of the way it would be done?
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 Helicopter gunships. Lots of them, blasting away the German Panthers and Tigers. Oh yes, and some M1s to clean up the rest. And some nuclear submarines to wipe up the U-Boat fleet.
silkworm Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 Yeah, major sophisticated airwar aimed at eliminating the weaponry of the enemy followed by troop invasion. That's our bag. If leadership is taken into consideration 1940s Germany would smash us today, but only because their leadership was evil and competent where ours is evil and incompetent.
Sisyphus Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 We would probably know exactly where everything they had was, and could bomb anywhere precisely and with impunity, so I imagine we'd pretty much destroy destroy their whole offensive military before they even got to fire a shot. That is, until they figure out to hide in urban areas and rely on guerrilla tactics, in which case it would get very, very messy. Pretty much like Iraq, actually, except even worse.
Martin Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 If leadership is taken into consideration 1940s Germany would smash us today' date=' but only because their leadership was evil and competent where ours is evil and incompetent.[/quote'] a profound observation:-)
aguy2 Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Helicopter gunships. Lots of them' date=' blasting away the German Panthers and Tigers.[/quote'] The Mark V and VI did not exist in 1940. aguy2

flyboy Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 we germans are a strong people and would naturally nuke any major US cities:D
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 Not if you had WWII-level technology.
aguy2 Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 Indeed. And the Mark III was rather pathetic. Rommel's 9th Div. which lead the breakout from the Ardennes to the Channel was equiped almost exclusively with Czech armor. aguy2
