mr d Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 hello has anyone seen any papers or books on the idea of organic metals? strange thoughts mr d
YT2095 Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 what do you mean by "organic metals"? there are indeed MANY organic mechanisms that employ metals as a necessary part of function maintainance, is that what you mean?
RyanJ Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Amazon has a whle section related too the topic found here: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/16052531/ref=br_bx_c_2_0/002-4419895-5295247 I will not make any comments as to the content of these books because I have not read any of them nor will I comment about organometallic compounds because I know virtually nothing about them! Cheers, Ryan Jones
insane_alien Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 organic is a class of compound and while metals caqn be a part of an organic compound by themselves they are not organic.
mr d Posted February 15, 2006 Author Posted February 15, 2006 hello remembering a time back when some were settiing forth the idea that 1) some how it might be possible to change a metal's structure to me more cellular in design. 2) growing an organic material into a desired shape, and then infusing the organics with metalic properties. not seen anything on such ideas lately, was wondering if any one had. as always thank you for your replies mr d
RyanJ Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organometallic_compounds A little information not much... I also remember some news here about these: http://www.sciencedaily.com/directory/Science/Chemistry Was a while ago mind you Ryan Jones
RyanJ Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Bacteria with metallic membranes? Well I'd like too see that! I think they would have applications in webware interfaces and the such presuming they retain their conductive properties after being reacted. Maybe in neuron mimic processing units too? Cheers, Ryan Jones
Daecon Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 They could be used in the construction of Polymimetic alloys...
RyanJ Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 They could be used in the construction of Polymimetic alloys... So they do retain their strength then? Does anyone know anything about their conductivity? Cheers, Ryan Jones
Daecon Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 I don't know about their conductivity, but they're pretty sturdy. It'd be able to withstand a close-range shotgun blast, several times. Just dont expose it to extremes of temperature...
mr d Posted February 17, 2006 Author Posted February 17, 2006 hello thank you for the responces and links. doing a bit of looking on my own and came across this paper. deals with zinc and maganese deposition in teeth and stingers of ants and scorpions. http://www.ligo-wa.caltech.edu/~roberts/thetimecourse.pdf not quite organic metals, but might show the possibilty of first growing organic tissue which could then be infused or displaced by metals (of a sort). strange thoughts mr d
Technologist Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 I don't know what you mean exactly. Perhaps something like a Grignard reagent?
