JustStuit Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 I have recently become interesting in cryogenics and uses. Does anyone do anything in this field or know about it. I just wanted to hear what people would do/have done or know about it. Are there are good books on the sugject btw?
chilehed Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 It's occasionally used in the heat treatment of steels to ensure that the microstucture completely undergoes the martensitic transformation. They used it on big battleship guns to maximize durability. There are a number of places that will treat small arms, but it won't do a thing to improve the accuracy of your rifle (which is what they claim). You can make really good ice cream using liquid nitrogen.
