aceman Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 Does anyone believe that the world is going to end in 2012?
bascule Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 End? No. But who knows, maybe the Singularity will occur...
silkworm Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 You mean on December 26th, 2012, the end of the Mayan calendar? Well, it is 4 seconds off now, right? Actually, if another regime like this one finds a way to get itself elected in 2008, I'll be surprised to be alive in 2012.
prion Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 so long as it's after the London Olympics! :D
herpguy Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 no I have written this sentence to make my reply long enough to post.
bascule Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 You mean on December 26th, 2012, the end of the Mayan calendar? December 21st, 2012 marks the end of the 13th baktun...
gothkid Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 Does anyone believe that the world is going to end in 2012? Nah. I don't think the world is going to end for quite a long time. Why 2012 all of sudden? Something would have to trigger it...
insane_alien Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 Nope. if it does i'll probably be sleeping so i won't care.
JohnB Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 You mean on December 26th, 2012 That's going to mess up the post Christmas sales.
hotcommodity Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 no I have written this sentence to make my reply long enough to post. lol. Its really hard to say. Some people believe in some sort of mass conscience awakening in 2012, some believe it will be a polar shift, and others think the date is miscalculated and has already come and gone. I'm not about to assume that I understand anything about ancient beliefs and mentality, especially when it comes to the Mayans, but it really makes you wonder if they knew something that we dont. Not everything about ancient civilization is primitive-look at the pyramids, the nazca lines, stonehenge, etc. Clearly there are some things that they were cognizant of scientifically that we simply cannot understand today. The question is if this factors into the Mayan calender, and if so, does this doom the majority of civilization?
