Daisy86 Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Hi. I was wondering if any of you could tell me the term used to keep cells alive but stop them growing when they are removed from the host (by altering the growth medium). This is in relation to Dolly the Sheep if that helps at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Daisy86 Posted March 4, 2006 Author Posted March 4, 2006 Thanks for your help Ryan. sorry if it was a little confusing, it's baffling me too! It is in relation to Dolly the sheep. When she was cloned, they removed the nucleus of an udder cell and "had to find a way of 'reprogramming' the udder cells - to keep them alive but stop them from growing - which they achieved by altering the growth medium." They then injected the cell into an unfertilised egg cell which had had its nucleus removed. I need to find out the term used to describe this 'reprogramming'. Any ideas??

Once the nuceus is removed it will then not replicate because it can't, is that what you mean? Cheers, Ryan Jones
