computerages Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 hi every1~ This question came up during a discussion in my physics class about the doopler effect and how it implies to the universe. The question was how would be the universe like without any planets, and other physical phenomena. Since that time I've been wondering about this question, and haven't came up to an effective answer. But, to the extent of my limited understanding, I suspect the universe would be a "black hole". What do you guys think?
aguy2 Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 hi every1~ This question came up during a discussion in my physics class about the doopler effect and how it implies to the universe. The question was how would be the universe like without any planets' date=' and other physical phenomena. Since that time I've been wondering about this question, and haven't came up to an effective answer. But, to the extent of my limited understanding, I suspect the universe would be a "black hole". What do you guys think?[/quote'] It would very likely depend on what you include in the catagory "other physical phenomena". A quick answer might be, "as the Universe was before there was such phenomena". aguy2
Sisyphus Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 What do you mean by other physical phenomena? You mean no matter? If so, it would be hard to say there was a "universe" at all...
Star Caribou Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 If you mean that there's nothing existing, including all the matter, energy, space-time, then the universe would not exist, for "universe" means "everything existing". None is none itself. And such question would be meaningless then, for no one could ever see how the universe like when everything and everyone doesn't exist. It has became quite a bothersome philosophy stuff, but once you think about it, you would get the answer. If you mean that nothing except time-space, then the answer would be quite close to your guess. "A blackhole." Actually, there's once a theory which astrophysicists like to dub it as "Theory of Nothing." It says that we could get a "child universe" by producing a blackhole. This blackhole would evaporate in 10^-34 seconds, and a merely normal blackhole when looked from the outside. But if you jump in it just in time, you would see a fast inflating universe!! Quite amazing, yet I think it would make a good guess. *"Theory fo Nothing" - mainly developed by Alan Guth and many others..
