Four problems from my health class

1. A condition in which fats build up in the liver and cannot be broken down.

 

2. A condition in which liver tissue is destroyed and replaced with useless scar tissue.

 

I know that the two answers for above is fatty liver and cirrhosis. But I don't know which is which. It's so confusing.

 

3. Physical and mental impairment resulting from alcohol use.

 

--> is this intoxication?

 

4. The KIDNEY oxidize(s) alcohol to form water, carbon dioxide, and energy.

 

--> I'm pretty sure this is false because I think it's liver that does this.

I can help with the last one.

 

Its not that simple its actualy turned into acetaldehyde by an enzyme known as alcohol dehydrogenase and then into acetic acid by another enzyme, acetaldehyde dehydrogenase. After this it is then turned into fat or broken down. So your correct its false - Liver exclusive.

 

Remember, liver breaks down kidneys filter:)

Is number one fatty liver? It seems too simple, but that might be it. I am pretty sure number 2 is cirrhosis.....

number one answers itself! It's not a trick question, it really is the obvious answer. (if you want to really be a swot you could put 'steatosis'...the medical term)

so that leaves number two as cirrhosis (or fibrosis...)

number three does seem to be just describing drunkeness, so yes I suppose the correct term would be alcohol intoxication.

I thought the kidneys did nothing but remove waste chemicals and excess water from the blood, and filter this "urine" into the bladder?

yeah they do quite a bit. Regulate ions, pH, blood pressure, water balance, activation of vitamin D, stimulate red blood cell synthesis...erm...
