biology is hot research-wise these days

and news of recent results (plus other fascinating bio-lore) comes out in several biology-related blogs

please post links to blogs and other biology resources that you have found interesting

biology-related research is hot for all sorts of reasons

understanding how large molecules work

human genetics

other genetics and genetic engineering

medical applications of new bio-tech

I'm not an expert in bio but half the time when I encounter exciting science news reports then (if it isnt in astrophysics/cosmology) it is likely to be in some bio area.

If you see how to do this thread better, you are welcome to take it over.

I am just going to start by posting some links to some great BIO-BLOGS

For starters, here is another where a couple of PHYSICISTS are fascinated by biology stuff----biochemistry, protein structure etc. so they have this blog called BIOCURIOUS

http://biocurious.com/

check it out!

And there is a perennial favorite

PHARYNGULA

and

GENE EXPRESSION (that's a pun, genes get expressed in organisms as phenotypes and also geneticists get to express themselves on current topics in this blog)

There are quite a few other great bio-blogs, but i dont want to do all the work. I will keep this thread going only if other people show interest, which ideally means bring in some of your favorite links.

You may have even better ones to recommend than these

=======================

Great news! I just heard that Mokele will, if all goes well, be back in a few weeks (maybe even earlier, who knows?)

He had to prepare a presentation to deliver at a conference and has extra heavy coursework this term. But hopefully that will lighten up in a few weeks so we can look forward to the reptilian presence.

In the meanwhile, let's hunt up some good biology-related sources on the web and keep track of some of the main stories.
