aommaster Posted October 27, 2003 Posted October 27, 2003 I looked at all the different forums and found this one to be the best. I have 1 question on light When light enters through a prism and bends, it is actually slowing down, now where on Earth does it get the energy to speed up again after it exits the prism
bigjnorman Posted October 27, 2003 Posted October 27, 2003 Originally posted by aommaster it is actually slowing down No, the change in orientation of the probability amplitudes from each possible way the light could propigate through the medium (because of the photon's interactions with the atoms in the medium) just gives the effect of slowing down. see...Quantum Electrodynamics
JaKiri Posted October 27, 2003 Posted October 27, 2003 Seeing Special Relativity would be better, as this was one of the first proofs of the theory.
bigjnorman Posted October 28, 2003 Posted October 28, 2003 of course, since SR deals with actions on the atomic scale right?
bigjnorman Posted October 31, 2003 Posted October 31, 2003 (off subject) have you ever looked at the theory proposing that gravitons are tachyons...implying negative time ordering and explaining gravity's time-reversed momentum transfer? I saw this here yesterday .... pretty cool stuff http://www.itsf.org/resources/factsheet.php?fsID=238here
