RyanJ Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 Could we be on the edge of the time where computers are intergrated directly with our brains? Well... not quite but this is a huge step towards such an achievement. Bio-organic processing is still in its early stages of development but is progressing with impressive speed as this new goal has been reached - researchers have actually managed to fuse brain cells with a computer chip. Sit back and watch as the computer-organism boundary becomes ever blurrier. http://www.livescience.com/humanbiology/060327_neuro_chips.html Ryan Jones
RyanJ Posted March 29, 2006 Author Posted March 29, 2006 I'm both fascinated and perplexed. I'm exactly the same way about this topic... it has a huge WOW factor for me, I posted this incase anyone else finds bio-processing interesting This could be a real breakthrough for wetware based technologies! bascule Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 I mentioned this here: http://www.scienceforums.net/forums/showthread.php?p=261646#post261646 Yeah, one step closer to wetware...
mattbimbo Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 is it so inconcievable that DNA encoded enzymes will exist that synthesise non-immunogenic computer chips in the future? but who will be the user the organism or the computer?
RyanJ Posted March 30, 2006 Author Posted March 30, 2006 is it so inconcievable that DNA encoded enzymes will exist that synthesise non-immunogenic computer chips in the future? but who will be the user the organism or the computer? Yes it is hard to believe. Computers are elctronic - they are non-adaptive hardware. Humans are organic and are biochemical based and can adapt. Those are two very different systems, I have no boubt that there will eventually be computer based neural interfaces and the like but we still have quite a way to go yet before we can make such a device. This step however seems to push the borderline further towards bio-computer intergrations. Cheers, Ryan Jones
Illuminati Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 Yes, It is very very interesting. Hopefully we will be able to see the technology fully implemented within our life time. Hopefully starting with the old and elderly, we may be able to slow or stop the effects of aging on the brain or atleast transfer the damaged functions to computer chips, vision, hearing, memory, etc... Hell, I'd be completely willing to be the first test subject and I'm only 18, it would be very cool to operate electronics by thought and to have wireless communication between people across entire continents. In addition to that, it could act as an input device for your brain so you could really be somewhere if the program is right. Very cool stuff is happening.
RyanJ Posted March 30, 2006 Author Posted March 30, 2006 Hell' date=' I'd be completely willing to be the first test subject and I'm only 18, it would be very cool to operate electronics by thought and to have wireless communication between people across entire continents.[/quote'] So would I. Imagin the things you could do. A global network of information, instant access to any information you need... amazing. There are problems obviously and these would need to be sorted before it is even ettempted on anyone. Computer viruses and the like not to mention electrical surges are all big problems.
