Jim Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Hands down, my favorite was Dukakis in the tank. I can still remember the squeaking sound of the tank as it rolled around with Dukakis looking like a complete nerd.
Pangloss Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Effective in the positive sense as well? Long as we're on Dukakis, Willie Horton is one I remember having a big impact. "There you go again" from the Reagan-Carter debates, which bled over into some very effective advertising. "It's the economy, stupid"

Have there been positive political spots?
john5746 Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 "Let's tell the truth. Mr. Reagan will raise taxes, and so will I. He won't tell you. I just did." - Mondale
Pangloss Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 It's funny I'd forgotten that, because it was at least part of the reason I voted for Mondale. Thanks for the reminder. Jim, there are always positive spots, but I guess the real question is whether any of them would be memorable as having been effective. Let me give it some thought.
Sisyphus Posted April 1, 2006 Posted April 1, 2006 The most effective of all time was probably the Lyndon Johnson with the little girl and the atomic bomb. Only aired once, and probably the most infamous ad ever, strongly implying that Goldwater would start a nuclear war. Of course, to be fair, Goldwater also implied that he would start a nuclear war. Honorable mention goes to Reagan and the bear.

Pangloss Posted April 1, 2006 Posted April 1, 2006 I know what it was. I was trying to forget that I ever voted for Walter Mondale. That was it.
Sisyphus Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 SBVT's end of the season spots against Kerry. Why, those weren't political ads! They were just after the truth!
pcs Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 Why, those weren't political ads! They were just after the truth! I don't see the dichotomy.
