chadn
Could someone please give me the chemical chomisiation of sugar(not sucrose) There are numerous "sugars." Sucrose being typical table sugar and so what most people think of when you say sugar. All your sugars are made up of Carbon, Hydrogen, and Oxygen. Beyond that you have to be a lot more specific as the exact chemical formula and stereochemistry of all the various sugars is huge. I will give you this. D-Glucose is the most common monosaccharide on Earth. Its formula is C6O6H12. Heres the structure and stereochemistry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glucose If thats not what your looking for than you have to be a lot more specific as there are too many sugars to go into detail about. ecoli
I guess a general formula for sugars would be CnHnOn
chuinhen
Cn(H20)n-1 is better for disacharides and polysaccharides
YT2095
Cn H(nx2) On would be a little better. sucrose is a little different in that it has an "Extra" carbon, but even that hydrolises to make Fructose and Glucose (a little dil HCl helps). woelen
I would like to say [ce]C_nH_{2m}O_{m}[/ce], with m ≤ n. Polysaccharides can have a lower m value, but mathematically, m and and n are different numbers, hence the two different values.

chemfreak
I think powdered sugar is something like H22O11. Please correct me if I'm wrong!!!!
YT2095
I think powdered sugar is something like H22O11. Please correct me if I'm wrong!!!! you`re wrong, sugar has Carbon © in it. I can`t see that in yours
ecoli
you`re wrong' date=' sugar has Carbon © in it.I can`t see that in yours [/quote'] a typo, I'm hoping.
Yggdrasil
I think powdered sugar is something like H22O11. Please correct me if I'm wrong!!!! Powedered sugar is also sucrose, [math]C_{12}H_{22}O_{11}[/math] or more accurately beta-D-fructofuranosyl (2-->1) alpha-D-glucopyranoside.
