I'm just interested to hear people's ideas on the primary cause on global biotic diversity patterns. There is an obvious lattitudinal relationship with increased rates of species diversity with a decrease in lattitude (i.e. the tropics harbour greater diversity than more temperate regions).

 

Any thoughts?
