daisy Posted November 9, 2003 Posted November 9, 2003 I have 2 interviews lined up....4 days apart. If I get offered the Ist job which sounds very interesting.... if I get offered it can i in all conscience ask them to wait till I've been to the 2nd interview? Which also sounds interesting. I know both of the PI's personally and I have expertise in each field but ....god...I don't know which will be the best bet for future career prospects. I wish someone would just come along and say.."Hey, here's what you should do". If I get offered the 1st job I then have to a) decide if I'm taking it and b) go to the guy offering the 2nd one and tell him that. What's a girl to do??
Skye Posted November 9, 2003 Posted November 9, 2003 The best thing to do would be to take the first if you are offered because you would feel silly if you ended up getting neither, and then somehow get me the second.
fafalone Posted November 9, 2003 Posted November 9, 2003 Tell them you have another prospective employer, they'll either be reasonable and wait, or offer you more money and/or benefits.
YT2095 Posted November 9, 2003 Posted November 9, 2003 Yup!, be straight upfront with them, your skills are valued and you`re sought after, I`ll sell to the highest bidder attitude. HONESTY is ALWAYS the best policy! I don`t care what others (the world) would have you believe otherwise. just tell `em as it is
atinymonkey Posted November 9, 2003 Posted November 9, 2003 Ignore it. You will probably have to wait a couple of days before you find out anyhow; a structured interview normally takes a few days to filter out successful candidates. There are legal matters to be taken care of (equal opportunities, contracts etc) As someone who gives interviews from time to time, I don’t think walking into a room and announcing your going for another interview later is a good idea. Neither the interviewer nor the company cares, it’s assumed that a candidate will have more than one interview in the pipeline. Just pick the one with the most pleasant working conditions, or the people who look like you get on with the most. If you like the people, they will probably like you too, which helps your career prospects!
YT2095 Posted November 9, 2003 Posted November 9, 2003 Hmmmm.... good points made! but subtlety was never my strong point
Dudde Posted November 10, 2003 Posted November 10, 2003 I dunno what you're gonna do, but good luck to you anyhow daisy!
daisy Posted November 12, 2003 Author Posted November 12, 2003 Thanks folks for all the replies....I'm just an old worrier who jumps aeons ahead of things. Problem is that both jobs are in the same dept. which is small and gossip gets around anyway (no matter how secretive you are). But anyway, I'm going to play it by ear and see what happens. I will survive (as Gloria said). I try not to worry about jobs too much - where does it get you except an early grave.
Dudde Posted November 13, 2003 Posted November 13, 2003 and the loss of one of my best chatting partners, so just relax a bit daisy ol' bean you could always start some counter-gossip, to make everyone forget about you
YT2095 Posted November 13, 2003 Posted November 13, 2003 or rise above it and ignore the lil` Idiots Wishing you well here, all the best
