Dudde Posted November 15, 2003 Posted November 15, 2003 where'd this come from? well anyway...lemme think - Nail jammed up into my heel at 8 yrs old - being cut by a piece of grass at 8 yrs old (got a scar too) - Mace/pepper spray to the face (even accidentally) - Acid on my face (it was 12-18 m, that sucked a mother) I can't remember, I have had a lot of things that were painful, too much so to decide between a most painful
fafalone Posted November 15, 2003 Posted November 15, 2003 Cat clawed a huge gash in my scalp... Fishing spear in the arm... Sore throat that hurt so bad I couldn't breathe... That's about it tho... never broke a bone.
iglak Posted November 15, 2003 Posted November 15, 2003 broke my right arm just below the wrist when i was 11. i broke it by sliding into homebase incorrectly. i got a point, but we lost the game... broke my left arm just below the wrist when i was 13. i broke it by hitting a pebble on one of those Razor scooters. the Razor took an instant turn, but i was still going foreward. that one didn't hurt as much since my bones bent more than broke. something could have happened when i was like 8. i remember not being able to move my legs for a few days. when i asked my parents about this they had no memory of it, and suggested that it might have been an extensive dream during a flu. so i have no idea... that's it
YT2095 Posted November 15, 2003 Posted November 15, 2003 Food poisoning through eating a can of fish that was 6 years out of date (the shop that sold it has long since been closed down). Shattered Calcaneal bone (the heel of your foot). and many instances of severe tooth breakage that I never sought help with. some of the other accidents I`ve have had have been worse in terms of damage sustained, but for some reason didn`t hurt as much as the above?
matter Posted November 15, 2003 Posted November 15, 2003 spraining my ankle hurt worse than breaking my left arm twice.
deamonstar Posted November 15, 2003 Posted November 15, 2003 when I was a teen-ager, I had contracted a rare (and fatal if left untreated) strain of salmonella which caused violent dry heaves (vomitting without anything coming out) which felt like all of my muscles in my body were being torn out among other associated pains that I don't care to mention. the doctors at the hospital couldn't identify the cause of my illness for several days so they called in a specialist in diseases and he discovered that I had the weird salmonella. in the mean time, I was given medications to treat most other common causes of food poisoning but, those medicines had little effect on the strain that I was infected with. the specialist told me that I was lucky that he was called in when he was because if the doctors would have waited another day or two, I would have been beyond treatment. another painful experience... while at work one day, I was on the roof of the house which was slightly damp from the previous nights rain. I was lifting lumber up into a window to where we were working when I turned and slipped on a spot that was a bit more damp than the rest of the roof. I fell only one story to the hard packed ground below, landed on my feet and tried to roll out of the fall. I got up and found that my feet hurt like the dickens! I went to the doctors office to get x-rayed. turns out that I bruised the bottoms of my heel bones. and as the swelling in my feet got worse, the pain also became worse... enough so that I couldn't walk for a day or so. but, the worst pain that I ever experienced happened at work also. we were setting steel I-beams with a crane that day. we were short-handed as 2 people called out of work that day leaving us with just myself, two others and the crane operator. I was on the ground strapping the I-beams to the crane. since the I-beams were sitting on the ground, I had to lift up one end by hand so that I could put a wooden block underneath of it so I could put the strap around it. well, anyways... I was lifting a 14 foot I-beam a little too close to its center when I heard and felt a sickening crunching sound that came from my lower back. it didn't hurt much at the time, just slightly sore. a few days later, I was putting on the plywood for the roof when I had turned slightly and felt a 'POP' in my lower back. my legs gave out and I fell back on my butt onto the roof where I was standing. ohhh the pain was terrible but, I managed to climb down the ladder. I was walking to my truck so that I could go to the doctors office but, the pain was getting worse by the second. I was crawling before I got half-way to the front door before the pain was too much to bear. I rolled over onto my back and just layed there. it didn't help that, at the time, I was also suffering a bout of bronchitis. I was coughing every few seconds. and the muscles were of course spasming with every cough. this only made the pain worse. my boss called an ambulance to come get me. it hurt terribly when they rolled me onto my side to get the back-board under me so that I could be carried out. the drive to the hospital was no better. every small bump in the road was exaggerated ten-fold by the pain that was screaming in my back. at the hospital, the doctors determined that I didn't break my back but I had a collapsed disk that was compressing the nerves in my spine. the doctor gave me a shot of Demeral (a powerful pain killer) in the leg. the shot itself hurt pretty bad too, that was one of the largest needles that I've ever seen. the pain of it injecting the drug into me caused me to clench and that only made the pain in my back even worse. the doctor said 'let the demeral work for about fifteen minutes then, I will come back to check on you.' when he came back he asked if the demeral helped... I told him that it didn't help at all. so, he tried another shot into my other leg... same thing... OUCH!!! still to no avail did the pain subside. about an hour after the shots of demeral, the pain still excruciating, the doctor gave me a prescription for 1000mg of ibuprofin to be taken every 4 hours, 700mg of percocet to be taken every 4 hours or as needed for pain and two 500mg of robaxin every 4 hours, and then sent me home to rest. after taking the medications, the pain itself was still terrible but the drug induced haze allowed me to sleep. I couldn't move for two days (well actually, I did manage to crawl to the bathroom to releive myself of bodily functions even though the pain was still nearly unbearable even with all the drugs... hey, when you gotta go... you gotta go!). after that, crawling was about the only locomotion that I could muster for a whole week. the drugs dulled the pain enough for me to walk after that first agonizing week. after the second week, most of the pain was gone except for an almost throbbing soreness that would come about after the drugs wore off between dosages. after the third week I was feeling much better and so, returned to work. I still had some of my prescription left over and was able to actually enjoy the high it gave me without the pain in my back. the accident with the I-beam has left me with a permanat injury. every now and then if I turn slightly in the wrong way, my back still goes out and causes me terrible pain (though nowhere as bad as that first time) which I can get a prescription from my doctor for. and as a matter of fact, we worked ouselves pretty hard this past week at work, and now my back is pretty sore right now. on a scale of 1-10, 1 being the least and 10 being the worst pain. I would say that the back injury was a resounding 13+!
blike Posted November 16, 2003 Author Posted November 16, 2003 I got hit in the head the other day while paintballing and it was one of the most painful things I can remember. I only remember 2 other very painful events 1) My yard is outlined by a stone wall, and I had hopped over the wall for some reason or another. The ground is a little bit lower on the other side of the wall, and so I needed a piece of wood to lean against the wall to stand on and give me a boost to be able to climb over. It was evening, and there was only a little bit of light left. I saw a piece of 2x4 laying on the ground nearby, so i propped it up and hopped on. I instantly felt an EXCRUCIATING pain in the soft part of my foot. I stepped down and lifted my foot, and the board was stuck to my foot. A nail had gone through my shoe and pierced a little into my foot. Hurt like a mad. 2) Another painful experience was hopping from rock to rock in a lake nearby. I slipped and my foot fell between the crack of the rocks and I banged my need down on a point on the stone with all my weight. That was the most painful experience I can remember. I nearly passed out, I could not take it. I was paintballing yesterday, and I got hit roughly 5 times on the top of my head (which is not protected by the mask). It seriously felt like someone was throwing rocks at my head. It knocked me backwards and gave me a serious migrane. http://www.blike.com/paintballing/DSC00054.jpg
Squintz Posted November 17, 2003 Posted November 17, 2003 Kidney Stone! Wanna talk about some pain... I would rathe die then go through that again. It started off feeling like i pulled a back mussle which i thought i did because i happend to be lifiting heavy bags of cement that day. So i just ignored it and sucked it up and then it slowy got more painful over about a hour and i had to goto homedepot to get more cement and as soon as i sat in my car i started tearing up while hoping the pain would go away. For some dumb reason i started to drive and about 2 minutes into the drive the pain was so bad i had to pull the car over on the highway and call my father to come get me. 30 seconds before he arrived i fell to the ground screaming because i thought i was going to die. That pain did not stop for 3 days. My dad took me to the doctors and they did an X-ray and they said go piss in this cup for us. So i did and out came nothing but thick blood. The doctors said that they have never seen such dark red piss. The doctor examined the X-ray and said "I dont see anything wrong with his x-rays he must have just torn a mussle" Stupid me i beleived them. 2am the next morning i was rushed to the hospital and this time a differnt doctor did a cat scan and found not only one but two Kidney Stones which have be tearing at my insides. About a month later i passed the stone which only hurt for a second. Some compare a man with a kidney stone to a womens contractions durring pregnancy. All i know is that i would never wish that pain on my worst enemies.
Pavlov's Dog Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 The after effects of having my wisdom teeth pulled. Pain-killers did nothing to numb my pain so I suffered without them. I was out of commission for three weeks. The surgeon was a complete hack. Those "dissolvable stitches" that I pulled out of my mouth probably still haven't dissolved, wherever they are.
Squintz Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 I must add that getting kick in the "Boys" is one of the most painfull things iv delt with. Yet women never seem to understand to be careful.
Atlantic Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 getting my adenoids pulled out in Europe, with very very little dilute freezing. The hospital was low on it so they gave me a choice. I wanted to get it over with,,,,,,big mistake. (this was a really long time ago)
Skye Posted November 23, 2003 Posted November 23, 2003 Had my first migraine last week. Without any painkillers, no less.
john5746 Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 Gallstones - similar to Martin, without the urine deal. Feels just like the guy on Alien - except it doesn't come out by itself.
TimeTraveler Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 1) I got bit by a German Shepard in the face when I was 5 years old, his teeth went through my cheek and I remember feeling his teeth grinding against my teeth, Completely tore the skin from the crevise in my lip up to my cheek bone. Thats where I got my big mouth from. The upper part of his teeth caught me on the hard part of my nose between my eyes, 118 stitches total to sew my cheek back together and my nose. 2) Broken rib in car accident, rebroke it 6 mos. later skiing. 3) Last but not least, doctor had to stick a needle underneath a spider bite a few months ago to numb it to cut it open. The idea was if he numbed it, it wouldnt hurt when he cut it open... well that part was true, but sticking the needle under it to numb it was the most excrutiating pain I have ever felt. I would have rather he just cut it open without numbing it.
Tetrahedrite Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 Lets see...... 1)broken forearm in four places which was put in a cast, then after four weeks had to be rebroken!!! 2)Brother hitting me in the head with a garden hoe.... 3)nail through the kneecap.... 4)Large glass window broken over my head..... There more but I just can't remember them all!
blike Posted January 28, 2005 Author Posted January 28, 2005 3)nail through the kneecap...oh goodness. That made me cringe.
RICHARDBATTY Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 Bike accident shattered knee cap and broke ankle and shin. Back problem caused by nerve damage, sounds daft but it beat the bike accident in terms of pain and it lasted a month without letting up. It then got gradualy better over a further two months. One for the firework enthusiast, I was playing with an air bomb repeater and the thing blew up in my hand. It felt like a high five from god. Don't mess with fireworks or they'll mess with you.
ed84c Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 I chewed through an electrical cable once. ouch.
jdurg Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 I've had a bunch of things happen to me that have hurt, but here are the worst. 1): Spiral fracture of my left tibia. I was a junior in high school and just woke up in the morning ready to get into the shower. My leg was half asleep still and there was a slippery spot on the bathroom floor. My left foot hit the slippery spot and started to slide. It was still half numb so I didn't really notice it too much. (Plus I was not quite with it yet). As a result, I started to fall down. However, the foot regained traction and stuck on the floor. I twisted around while falling and landed right on my left leg. There was an immediate POP and my leg swelled up like crazy right in the middle of my shinbone. When I tried to move my feet I could feel the ends of the bones sloshing around inside my leg and the pain was insane. The breaking of the bone didn't hurt, but afterward everything hurt. When the doctor set the bone for the x-ray, I actually passed out from the pain. God that hurt. 2): My senior year of high school I was playing 'Human Foosball' where it's like an indoor soccer area where they tie you to metal rods going across the field. I was playing with normal sneakers on and somebody else, who was on the pole across from me, had steel-toed boots on. We both went to kick the ball when it made a strange hop and our toes met straight on to each other. My right big toe turned purple and swelled up a bit. It hurt to walk for about three weeks. I never got it looked at because there would really be nothing they could do, but my god it killed. I figure it was broken. 3): A few years ago I came down with back spasms and was unable to do anything for about two weeks without being in intense pain. Amazingly enough, the spasms went away just as suddenly as they came on. Still, I couldn't believe how much they hurt.
Tesseract Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 1): When I tried to move my feet I could feel the ends of the bones sloshing around inside my leg and the pain was insane. The breaking of the bone didn't hurt' date=' but afterward everything hurt. When the doctor set the bone for the x-ray, I actually passed out from the pain. God that hurt. [/quote'] Ouch! I have a few, but I cant really pick one. 1)When I was younger a friend through a metal dart at my head,I think he was drunk. It got stuck behind my right ear in my skull. I pulled it out but had to go to the hospital later because of an infection. 2)I got stabbed in the arm by mistake with a large knife, that hurt really bad. 3)One of my old cats mauled my eye very badly once, I was almost blinded, and i have a scar across my eyelid. 4)Out hunting once, I was mistakenly shot by another hunter when I was behind a deer. It went through my left hand!
ecoli Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 Me and my brother were wrestling in my basement (on July 4th) He threw me over his shoulder and I fell into a glass cup that was on the floor. The cup shattered and cut threw my skin. Later I leanred it had cut threw my muscle and lacerated my tricep tendon. I went through an hours worth of surgery, and I still have a very large scar on my elbow. I had to wear a caste/brace for 4 months.
coquina Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 An experience very similar to daemonstar's. I first hurt my back when I was in my early 20's and worked for a vet. I was lifting a large dog to put him on the table, and had him around the rump and forelegs. His owner wouldn't allow the vet to muzzle him so his head was free. As I started to lift, he snarled and turned his head toward me. I knew he was going to bite me in the face, so in one motion I stood up and threw over 100 lbs of dog over the exam table and into the wall on the far side of the room. I heard my back "pop" too, matter of fact, so did the vets, even over the commotion the dog and its owner was making. They fired me on the spot for throwing the dog. That night I went home and went to lift my daughter out of her crib - my back let go and I was helpless on the floor. My husband worked night shift and found me the next morning. I was treated with painkillers and rest, and it got better, but like Daemon, one wrong move and it would go out again. I had seen several docs - no one could find the problem. Fast forward to 1989 - I had joined a fitness program and was doing a bunch of stretches - (read my reply to "Ballistic Stretches" - this is why I say DON'T) I was too enthusiastic, and suddenly I felt my left leg go numb, it was followed by excrutiating pain. I had herniated the disk - and it was pinching both nerves, the one that feels sensation, and the motor nerve. I couldn't lift my leg. This story has a happy ending. I had the disk repaired surgically. When I woke up in the operating room, the pain was gone. My neurosurgeon came in and said, "By the way, I found out the source of your ongoing pain. You had ruptured a disk sometime in the past, and there was a piece of it floating around in your back - everytime it moved against the nerve, you had pain." He took that out too. I didn't even have any surgical pain. Three days later, I danced at my daughters wedding. It was a slow dance, mind you, but I did dance. I do have arthritis in my lumbar area, which from time to time gets very uncomfortable - I have had a couple of cortesone injections which relieve the pain for about 3 months.
