JohnB
The idea is to clarify the term "reasonable use". (And to take our laws out of the 1970's. ) Even then, many people (myself included) would tape our vinyls so we could play the tape to death without damaging the record. (I have LP's that have only been played 12 times, once for each taping.) While such acts were technically illegal most courts viewed this as "reasonable use" but obviously the record industry disagreed. Surprise, surprise. Now with CD players in cars, most people burn a copy of their CD's for use in the car. This prevents financial loss if the car is broken into or stolen. Also heat damage is a problem here. Again this was viewed by the courts as "reasonable use", but not by the record companies. It's nice to see a government actually using common sense for a change. [/quote'] Exactly, as long as your not actually selling the things or giving them to other people then there is nothign wrong with it - lets hope other countries follow the example and put some sence into these stupid laws. Its the same for TV programs though, not supposed to be kept longer then 20(?) says after being recorded... I have tapes that are 4-5 years old, the courts would never fine nor arrest for that either. Cheers, Ryan Jones
