ncla Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 I have a question... how much weight does it take to submerge 1 cubic foot of air in fresh water? any ideas let me know!
insane_alien Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 the same weight as a cubic foot of water funnily enough.
the tree Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 Are you sure, it seems to me that it'd be the difference between the wieght of the air and the wieght of the water. (practically the same I know, but principle-wise)
swansont Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 the same weight as a cubic foot of water funnily enough. Less the weight of the air, of course. The bouyance is the difference between the weight of the object and the weight of the displaced water. The mass of that air will be of order 50 grams, compared to the ~35 kg of mass of the water.
