openmic Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 The fact that Earth observers always see teh same side of the Moon is explained by the Moon's (what) a. eclipse b. penumbra c. gravity d. synchronous rotation
Mach Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 i would say d, but i have no idea what b is so that might be the answer
Genecks Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 I would choose D: - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synchronous_rotation - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synchronous_orbit - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tidal_locking The moon is Terra's (Earth's) satellite.
[Tycho?] Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 Its not like you even need physics to answer that question, a dictionary would allow for an accurate guess.
LazerFazer Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 Yup, D's the only one that makes sense. And physics isn't really required, as [Tycho?] stated already.
antimatter Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Right, my guess is probably D as Dictionary.com says Synchronous rotation is the result of tidal forces that over time slow the rotation of the smaller body until it is synchronized with its period of revolution around the larger body. The Earth's Moon exhibits synchronous rotation, as do a majority of moons in the solar system
Phi for All Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Right, my guess is probably Das Dictionary.com says Why are you responding to a two-year-old homework question? This kid probably graduated high school by now.
antimatter Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Why are you responding to a two-year-old homework question? This kid probably graduated high school by now. I really really have to start paying attention to dates...eh sorry about that
thedarkshade Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 I really really have to start paying attention to dates...eh sorry about thatUmmm.... what year is this?
antimatter Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 okay okay I get it...it was 2 years ago, I just searched something earth and the moon, this came up, and I responded... leave it alone
iNow Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Don't worry too much about it, antimatter. We've all done it from time to time ourselves. I think darkshade really doesn't know what year it is, and he was asking a serious question.
thedarkshade Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 I think darkshade really doesn't know what year it is, and he was asking a serious question. Yeah, I'm having little problem with it since I've done some time travel and that has completely confused me!
iNow Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Yeah, I'm having little problem with it since I've done some time travel and that has completely confused me! Haha... Good response, mate. Now, I finally think all of us are on the same page. If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits eighty-eight miles per hour... you're gonna see some serious shit.
antimatter Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 Haha... Good response, mate. Now, I finally think all of us are on the same page. If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits eighty-eight miles per hour... you're gonna see some serious shit. classic iNow
