My grandmother says the oboe makes you crazy. Are you crazy, JustStuit?

I'm not crazy! **glances around nervously**

I've actually heard that too. And judging by the professional players I know it may be true. But they are cool!

The Arcade Fire - Neighbourhood #1 (such an amazing band)

Guru - lifesaver (even you if you hate hip hop listen to this song, it's a good mix of hiphop and jazz)

Led Zeppelin - That's the way.

Jehst - 1979 (good UK hiphop, again non gangstarish)

m83 - teen angst

Million dead - living the dream (despite the name of the band, this song isn't heavy)

Radiohead - How to dissapear completely, No suprises, Bullet proof I wish I was. (by far my favourite band)

Erik satie - Gymnopédie and Gnossienne 1,2 and 3

Lauren Hill - To zion (possibly the best voice ever)

There are way too many to list (I seem to be easily moved by music). Here are a few that do it to me though. More an indication of type than a definitive list.

Recuerdos Del Alhambra (Francisco Tarrega).

Baker St. Muse (the latter part, after 7 minutes 45 seconds) Jethro Tull.

Ladies (Jethro Tull)

Tuesday's Gone (Lynyrd Skynyrd)

Goodnight (Buffy Sainte-Marie)

Wasn't born to Follow (The Byrds)

Tonight (The Move)

Strange Little Girl (Stranglers)

La Folie (Stranglers)

Chung Kuo (Vangellis)

Etc. Etc.. ad nauseam.

Thought I'd bring this thread back from the dead...I urge anyone to listen to 'Tipper' if you can find the Sirenes remixes, especially 'deep end' it certainly classes as beautiful music. In fact, I can't seem to find a dud track out of all his albums, very good indeed.

Oh, and this guy called 'Oi Mush' (on myspace) he's absolutely amazing, probably the best music I've heard in my entire life, seriously this guy is just ridiculous, I have to hurt myself after listening to his tracks, because my ears are not worthy of such genius. ;) Please check out the pics as well.

Are you allowed to plug your own music on here ?

Oh, I've also been listening to a lot of 'Kaya Project' recently, which also fits the bill. Amalgamation of world and electronic music, very good as well.

Gerry Rafferty - Baker Street

^^ That one of my favourites.

I really like this song, it's cute.

Lately I've been into PRT (Poor Righteous Teachers)

I find this live proformance "beautiful" It's very pro-black, but I like him because he put alot of heart into what he does and promoting education and intelligence and the creation of positive hip=hop/rap. If you don't like rap (or some swearing) I wouldn't click the link.

P.S. Yes I listen to extreme variety of music lol, anything that sparkles the soul so to speak.

Everyone should listen to Candide Suite by Bernstein, especially "Make our Garden Grow", the fifth movement. I recently played the english horn solo and the whole song is just wonderful.

Well, all great classical music is some kind of beautiful. But, as far as luminous melodies go, the motif to the Maestoso of Saint-Saen's "Organ Symphony" (aka the Babe song), is one of my favorites. The English Romantics Vaghan-Williams and Holst have some really good ones too, like "Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis" and "Somerset Rhapsody," respectively. I'm trying the think of a 'beautiful' Russian piece but I appreciate Russian composers more for being interesting than lovely in that sense. Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition" has some nice melodies on that count, I suppose, and Russian liturgical music (like Tchaikovsky's "Litergy of St. John Chrysostom" or Borodin's "Russian Easter Overture") is a different kind of a beautiful.

Uhm, the old American folk song "Black Girl," or "In the Pines," I've always found quite striking. Oh, and the song

by the Russian band DDT. That's what I can think of right now.

EDIT: You all might enjoy the

better, since it has an astronomer in the music video. :P Edited by CDarwin

What can you say, I'm more of a romantic...

Chopin's nocturnes (all of them)

Mazurka op. 63 no. 3 in C# minor (Chopin)

Chopin's piano concerto #2

La Campanella (Liszt)

Dvorak's Romance in F minor

A variety of dvorak's slavonic dances

Moonlight Sonata in C# minor (Beethoven)

Tempo di Valse (Dvorak)

And just as Dave, I enjoy John Williams' soundtrack, however of a different movie. (Schindler's List)

Theme from Schindler's List

Remembrances

Por Una Cabeza (I know that's Gardel, not John Williams, but it was used in the movie)

I love many different styles of music from Elvis to Ska, but if I had to recommend an excellent album to listen too that I love it would be the Walking Wounded album by Everything but the Girl, I think it was released 96/97:-)

I really like modern classical music with quite some mystique in it and sometimes just raw crying out of one's fears, sadness, and angers. Some names:

  • John Tavener
  • Arvo Pärt
  • Henry Górecky
  • Lili Boulanger

Thanks I just checked these out.

'Absolutely Beautiful' is pretty fitting.
