computerages
heya every1~! I had a quiz on electric fields and circuits a few days ago, and I got it back today. I was surprised to see 9/10 score as my expectations were very low. I think my teacher mistakenly gave me points on a question... The question is: Two resistors are wired in series with 24 V battery. R1 = 9 ohms and R2 = 18 ohms. Find the current through R1, and the power of R2. I got 8/3 A for current, and 32 W for power....are these accurate answers? swansont
No, though you did appear to use the proper equation for power after incorrectly solving for the current. The current should be the same in both resistors, since they are in series. So when you used V = IR, you should have used the total resistance. Another way of looking at it is that there cannot be a 24V drop across both resistors.
