rdaniel Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 I am looking for a grad student in chemistry or chemical engineering, preferably in southern California, to help me with purification of 95% ethanol. Please contact me directly. Rob Daniel XXXrdaniel2YYY@YYYsbcglobalXXX.ZZZnetZZZ MOD EDIT: Modified email address. Leave out XXX, YYY, ZZZ. It is not smart to post plain email addresses. Besides a few mails from SFN-members you may also expect tons of mails from porn-suppliers, crackz and warez sites, leather and SM suppliers, etc. etc.
Tartaglia Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Ecoli - Many synthetic chemists spend a large proportion of their time drying solvents as the compounds they work with are moisture sensitive. Rdaniel - Drying ethanol is reasonably easy with the right equipment, as you just dissolve Na in it and distill it off under N2. Distilling solvents is however where most accidents happen in the lab.
Assburnin Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 No crap on the accident front - I've seen an ethanol still go up - its great to watch from a distance! Do yourself a favour and just use 4 angstrom molecular sieves
