Pangloss Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 For months now I've been getting spammed by password notices in email that are telling me that someone ("probably me" it says) is trying to change my password. The email gives me a new password, and tells me that I can use it or keep using the old one. What do you guys think? Is someone trying to steal my user ID?
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Probably. Perhaps there's a bot going around trying to get usernames/passwords of Wikipedia accounts. Try asking a Wikipedia administrator in the Community Portal to see what they can do. They may be able to block whoever's doing it.
Pangloss Posted June 18, 2006 Author Posted June 18, 2006 Thanks Cap'n. Is this the board you're talking about? I went over there but I had a hard time finding an obvious place to look for help on this.

Genecks Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 I recently changed my password. I thought about changing mine on Wikibooks, but most people ignore Wikibooks.
-Demosthenes- Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 I rather think someone else has a very similar user name, and when they type it in wrong it doesn't work, so they click the "forgot password link."
