gene Posted December 1, 2003 Posted December 1, 2003 One night, i slept beside my mum but i couldn't get to sleep. Her snores were simply too loud! I told my mum the next day that she snored really loudly and she said she have no idea that she snores. Then, she asked me a real good question: Why do people snore?
Emmon Posted December 1, 2003 Posted December 1, 2003 There is a soft palate at the rear of your throat. If these tissues flutter and come into contact with each other during sleep.. you snore I know there are treatments for snoring which involves either removal of some of the tissue, or spraying it with a chemical that causes the tissue to stiffen. Everyone has different sizes / shapes of these tissues which is why there is not some "universal snore sound" P.S Hi everyone
jordan Posted December 1, 2003 Posted December 1, 2003 I seem to have a lot more questions than answers, and here is one that fits. What is the purpose of yawning? I remember hearing that there still isn't a definate answer. Does anyone know?
Emmon Posted December 1, 2003 Posted December 1, 2003 In our distant past, when we lived and hunted in groups, every member of the group had a decent night's sleep. To ensure this happenned we all needed to go to sleep at the same time as each other. Yawning is a subconscious signal to others that we are tired and want to go to sleep and so they must do so too. Also, I think it equalises the pressure in the head.
gene Posted December 1, 2003 Author Posted December 1, 2003 what i learnt about yawning is that there is not enough oxygen in your body or brain. And that "cause" causes an effect:yawning. It is sort of an response.
iglak Posted December 1, 2003 Posted December 1, 2003 jordan said in post #3 :What is the purpose of yawning? DAG NABBIT!!! you made me yawn lol it might be something thaat kind of gets you ready for sleep... somehow.
Squintz Posted December 1, 2003 Posted December 1, 2003 I didnt even notice until iglak said something but i also yawned as soon ias i read the word yawn. Weird!
jordan Posted December 2, 2003 Posted December 2, 2003 That seems to happen to a lot of people. Even so, you all are devided on what the reason we yawn is. Emmon's post is new stuff to me but gene's sounds familiar.
gene Posted December 2, 2003 Author Posted December 2, 2003 So can we say that everyone is a potential snorer or that we almost snore everytimE?
