positron Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 Does electicity flow from positive to negative or from negative to positive? And Why is the direction of electrical current opposite to the direction of flow of electrons?
YT2095 Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 the electron has a negative charge, so electricity travels from Neg to Pos.
gcol Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 Why is the direction of electrical current opposite to the direction of flow of electrons? Is that not just a result of a historically wrong guess that it has been academically convenient (and confusing) to retain, from before electron theory?
swansont Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 the electron has a negative charge, so electricity travels from Neg to Pos. There are instances where positive charges flow. But that's a minority of the cases.

Yeah, you can pretty much blame Ben Franklin for it. The 50/50/90 rule in action. (given a 50-50 chance, you will guess wrong 90% of the time)
