daneeka Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 Hello all, I'm preparing a lit review on plant-animal interdependance and I was just wondering if anyone knows of any key papers on the subject; or if you yourselves could impart any key examples. I'm excluding direct trophic links (like dietry dependencies) from the review in order to narrow things down a bit.
Dr. Dalek Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 The most obvious one would be the photosynthesis/respiration relationship. However it might be interesting to get into direct plant/animal symbiosis here is one about ants and a type of tree.
daneeka Posted July 20, 2006 Author Posted July 20, 2006 Cheers for the paper Dr. Dalek Yeah I'm probably going to focus on direct symbioses. The most obvious ones that spring to mind are seed dispersal and pollination...and now myrmecophyte-ant relationships.
Halucigenia Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Did you know that the sloth hosts plants living on its body. The sloth has a symbiotic relationship with algae that grows inside its hollow hairs. The algae gets a home and the sloth gets camouflage. This is the most weird example of plant and animal symbiosis that I know of.
