aommaster
I know that there are LOADS of hydrocarbons, At the moment i know these: Alkanes: SImple ones Alkenes: Have double bonds Alkynes: Have triple bonds Dienes: Have two double bonds Trienes: Have three double bonds Can you please give me an example of the follwoing: -a diene, its general formula, example (displayed formula preferred) -a triene and its general formula, example (displayed formula preferred) -an alyne and its general formula, example (displayed formula preferred) -the name of hydrocabons with 2 triple bonds, general formula and an example (displayed formula preferred) -the name of hydrocarbons with 3 triple bonds, general formula and an exapmple (displayed formula preferred) I know its an immensly HUGE question  , but pleeeaassseeee? YT2095
Buta-1,3-diene CH2=CHCH=CH2 is about the only one I can think of atm. wait until Blike or Faf get here, they`ll know em for sure!
aommaster
can u please show me a quick displayed formula? You know the one which shows the exact structure. just one quick one on paint! something like this. This one is butanoic acid which i drew myself for my website! YT2095
no I can`t, I don`t use them (never have), I`ve only ever needed the formula, sorry have a look on google, there`s sure to be one on there

YT2095
they both fit formula, and atom for atom link to link are correct. there`s just a rotation of the one group in the pic
aommaster
Oh oh oh oh oh !!!! ok thanx it really looked different cause i tried to see if there was a rotation!!!! thanx
aommaster
by the way, the number of hourds ur active is exactly the same as the first 3 numbers of the numbers of post.
YT2095
n/p and I fairly sure it`s not an Isomer either, but Faf or Blike will know alot more, they`re much beter at Organic Chem than me re: post count and hours, Not for long
aommaster
wat is an isomer **yt2095 thinks: oh no, me and my big mouth, now another arguement** lol really, wat is an isomer, ive heard of monomers and polymers, whats an isomer
YT2095
it`s 2 molecules of the same shape, except one is a mirror image of the other. look at the palms of your hand, they`re both the same shape (like the molecule structure) but flipped over and it DOES make a huge difference!. the taste of a carraway seed has a molecule identicall to that of the Spearmint molecule. and yet they taste totaly different, the reason being, they are isomers, 1 one way and the other a miror of it
aommaster
so is ethene an isomer???
wolfson
Diene: The simplest diene is 1,3-butadiene, another is 2-methylbuta-1, 3-diene they contain two double bonds, and the general formula is Cn H2n – 2. Triene: 2-Methylbicyclo[3.2.0]-hepta-1,4,6-triene, they contain three double bonds, and the general formula is Cn H2n –3. Alkadiyne(s): Have two triple bonds, 5-methyl-1-hexyne CH3CH(CH3)CH2CH2C=-CH, cant remember the gf. Triynes: Have three triple bonds, 5,8,11-eicosatriynoic acid (ETI, 20:3 n5). Carbon and silicon can theoretically form quadruple bonds. My brain isnt working yet, ive named them and helped out on some just google search with the names and you should get what you need. YT2095
Pass? not that I know of though, it usualy only applies to more complex molecules (generaly speaking).
