chuinhen Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 Why OXYGEN supports combustion ??? What is the chemical reactions OR mechanism take place >>>????
woelen Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 Oxygen supports combustion, but also is required for combustion. Oxygen in fact is quite an energetic molecule, and so are the molecules in combustible materials. The rearrangement of the oxygen and the combustible molecules to water and carbon dioxide releases the chemical (potential) energy in those molecules as heat.
YT2095 Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 it may also be usefull to look up REDOX reactions also. a few of the Halogens will support combustion too, without the need for oxygen anywhere
Assburnin Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 The most fun is getting the colour blue in your liquid nitrogen trap
CanadaAotS Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 I love that "Magic Fire" dust that makes rainbow coloured fires
