An archer shoots an arrow over level ground. The arrow leaves the bow at a height of 1.5 m with an initial velocity of 60 m/s in a horizontal direction. a. How long does this arrow take to fall to ground? b. At what horizontal distance does this arrow strike the ground?
timo Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 a) The same time as if it was simply dropped from 1.5 m (note : It might be worthwhile trying to understand why). b) you get that from the time and the horizontal velocity which you can probably assume as constant.
swansont Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 And getting used to the idea toward which Atheist pointed, that horizontal and vertical motion (or any orthogonal components) are independent, will help; it's a concept that will be applied again and again.
