gib65
Hi everyone, I'm looking for a few good books on tribal societies and culture. Specifically, I'm looking for something on African tribes and South American tribes - one book for each would be preferable. I'm looking for something as broad as possible - culture, arts, religions, politics, social dynamics, ecology, etc. Anybody know any good books? Pleiades
I’m taking a sociology class at uni, and one of the books we have to read is Richard Lee’s “The Dobe Ju/’hoansi” which our prof assures us s a classic in the field. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s an ethnography about a group of gatherer hunters in southern Africa. It covers culture, religion, politics, social dynamics and ecology. I’m not sure about the arts, but I haven’t read it all yet, although I think you could build a picture of their arts from reading the rest of the book. Its been pretty good reading so far, and has kept me interested.
