Mason R Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Hey guys, Is it possible to HORIZONTALLY FLIP my own reflection without the use of two mirrors side by side? Is this the only way or is there an easier way? Thanks Mason Roberts
Mason R Posted November 11, 2006 Author Posted November 11, 2006 lol, yes but in real world conditions? Is it possible without two mirrors?
D H Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Use a single curved mirror. This works best (least distortion) when the curvature is limited to a small portion of the mirror (for example, a 90 degree bend in the middle of the mirror).
insane_alien Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 i use a web cam(well, DV camera but same principle but with better resolution) in the real world.

Any other ways of accomplishing th SAME thing, but with a normal mirror? I doubt it, but I was just wondering if it was possible!
insane_alien Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 an even number of mirrors is the only arrangement that will work in that case.
Mason R Posted November 11, 2006 Author Posted November 11, 2006 Ahhh ok... Hmmm I thought to myself... THERE HAS TO BE A WAY... But obviously not... Hmmm damn! Thanks for the replies so far guys!
calbiterol Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 What exactly do you mean by horizontally flipping your reflection? Horizontal with respect to the mirror surface (left-to-right)? Or horizontal from your persepctive (front-to-back)? Judging by the posts, you meant left-to-right, but I thought I'd ask. Why? Just curious.
Klaynos Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camera_obscura no mirrors!!!! As for a single mirror to do it you could possibly do it by a curved mirror, but I'm not sure if you could do it to yourself or just for some other observer, easily.
D H Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Could a mirror based on a material with a negative index of refraction possibly work?
Klaynos Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Could a mirror based on a material with a negative index of refraction possibly work? No, if anything it'd just complicate matters more. They are not trivial materials.
chemfreak Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 if there is a table underneith it than just lie down on it and then you will be horizontally changed reletive to how you were before.
