This is chemistry related but i don't think it would be appropriate in the chemistry section because it isn't really science.

 

We all know of the whole Dihydrogen Monoxide thing and how many people fell for it, so, why don't we pick a couple of chemicals, apply a scary sounding (but still accurate) name to it and see if we can do something similar.

 

So, the rules for submission of suggestion will be:

1. MUST be essential to life.

2. Should have lots of bad effects due to excess or lack

3. MUST be real.

 

i'm going to nominate oxygen for this. This dangerous chemical(dioxide) was responsible for chernobyl when it got into the reactor core and has been involved in the ignition and sustainment of every major fire in history.

I nominate Ethane Hydroxide.

 

it`s caused Countless deaths and several severe fires and explosions, it mostly Legal too! and available over the counter in some countries.

it can be synthed legaly but is ilegal to concentrate this chemical without a permit.

its chemical formula is C2H5OH or CH3CH2OH.

Sodium chloride (NaCl)

 

This vicious compound consists of two dangerous elements, sodium and chlorine, of which sodium can burst into flames on contact with water and chlorine is a very reactive and toxic gas in room temperature.

 

Mainly because of sodium chloride, over 90% of Earth's water supplies can't be used for drinking.

 

A majority of vegetation and even micro-organisms suffer heavily in environments with even moderate sodium chloride levels.

 

Drinking a solution of sodium chloride can lead into such electrolyte imbalances and drying of tissue that death may follow.

Oxygen also is a very bad chemical. As soon as you are exposed to it, you will be addicted to it, for the rest of your life. From your first day as a baby you are addicted already. The addiction is so bad, that even taking away the oxygen for a few minutes may be lethal. Really serious stuff.

Oxygen has very bad effects on the human body. It causes aging of the body, it produces free radicals, which cause slow deterioration of body cells.

3-(2-aminoethyl)-1H-indol-5-ol often called 5-Hydroxytryptamine, is one of many potentially deadly chemicals that the youth of today shouldn't be messing with.

 

With moderate levels of 5-Hydroxytryptamine in the brain, users find themselves to be functional, sleep well, and have a chemical induced happiness that they can't live with out. This leads to a serious addiction that in almost all cases will last for life.

 

A recent survey showed the majority of the population were oblivious to the dangers associated with high levels of 5-Hydroxytryptamine. These side effects range from moderate to fatal and include mental confusion, hypomania, hallucinations, agitation, headache, shivering, sweating, fever, hypertension, tachycardia, nausea, diarrhea, myoclonus/clonus, hyperreflexia, tremor, coma and finally death. Conversly serious discorders such as clinical depression, anxiety, bipolar, migranes and the deadly SIDS have been linked to low 5-Hydroxytryptamine levels.

 

Many people think a society full of chemical induced happy people would be a great place to live however sadly this is not the case. Scientist predict that 100% of rapists, murderers, and burgulars have had measurable levels of 5-Hydroxytryptamine in thier bodies, showing an unmistakable link between this chemical and criminal behaviour.

 

fMri scans of users brains have also shown levels of other potentially deadly chemicals such as 4-(2-aminoethyl)benzene-1,2-diol which has been linked with psycosis and the deadly 2-(acetyloxy)-N,NN,N-trimethylethansminium known to causes seizures. This undoubtedly proves this chemical acts as a gateway to these other potentially dangerous substances.
