a_lyssa1591 Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 i am in a 9th grade collage prep experimental lab class and i am being taught from a book that is about 30 years out dated and that is not an issue obviously with my fellow classmates because they get it just fine , but for me it is difficult , we so far have studied about measuring volume and mass accuratly and also about characteristic properties such as boiling point, melting point, freezing point, density , and solubility and my exam is in two days and i looked at some of the tested i got c's on and i got alot wrong so i am freaking out.
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Give us something specific to go on that we can help you with. What can't you do? What in particular don't you understand? We're not going to teach the entire course to you here
a_lyssa1591 Posted January 15, 2007 Author Posted January 15, 2007 okay , i have a hard time understanding questions like in determining the volume of a rectangular box, five cubes were found to fit exactly along one edge, and four cubes along another edge. however, after six horizontal layers had been stacked in the box, a space was left unfilled if the height of the space was half the lenght of an edge of a unit cube, what was the volume of the box?
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Visualize it. The box is five units long and four units wide. If you can fit six and a half cubes vertically, it's six and a half units tall. Then you simply multiply. The answer should be 130.
a_lyssa1591 Posted January 15, 2007 Author Posted January 15, 2007 okay that is what i thought i was doing in the begining of the problem but then the "word" half throw me off so how can't interprit the problem? i have been told alot off thinks about word problems like state the given numbers or just look at the numbers and i try but all the word in between throw me off, it is frusttrating because i try so hard to understand
a_lyssa1591 Posted January 16, 2007 Author Posted January 16, 2007 okay and if the height of the space was .23 the lenght of an edge of a unit cube, what was the vol. of the box? so i think the lenght 6 and a half minus .23 which is 6.27???? that can't be right
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 No, not 6 and a half. You had six units fit already, and now you have .23 more left. Thus, 6.23.
a_lyssa1591 Posted January 16, 2007 Author Posted January 16, 2007 oh i see .23 "the lenght" means.23 more
chemilover Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 sorry party i m late to read ur messages else isurely have given answer to your questions well how was your paper was that bad or you pass through it easily cya
