blike Posted September 11, 2002 Posted September 11, 2002 NewScientist has an article about biological alternatives to pacemakers. "Genetically-engineered heart cells may be able to replace the electronic pacemakers that hundreds of thousands of cardiac patients have transplanted each year, suggests a new study in guinea-pigs." Full article available here. Journal reference: Nature (vol 419, p132)
aman Posted October 22, 2002 Posted October 22, 2002 Thanks blike, My ticker is bad and I have a "Reveal II" loop recorder in my chest. It records bad spells of arythmia. I'd rather not get a pacemaker in the future but it looks like I may not be able to wait. Technology just ain't fast enough for some of us old farts. My Dad road a bus to a dentist in the '40s and had his tonsils removed. Then he took the bus back home. We have come a long ways. Just aman
