atomiseve Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 say you are going on an outing and want to keep the cold-cuts cool in the summers heat... which will provide a functional benefit to the greater degree, ice frozen in a solid block and placed into the cooler or crushed ice poured into the same type cooler? The lid of course would be closed and consider all other parameters would be more or less equal.
YT2095 Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 a solid block would have less surface area and thus last longer, however the ice chips, would provide Faster cooling, but last nowhere near as long.
insane_alien Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 i would go with a mixture of solid blocks and crushed ice. unless you are taking it out the freezer and straight into the cooler. then it would just be the solid block. it'll last longer than the crushed ice.
YT2095 Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Ham wouldn`t last that long around here anyway, a pot of English mustard and some fresh bread it would soon Vanish )
insane_alien Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 yeah, YT, is right. there is now way the ham is going to last till the ice melts. you could always chuck in some liquid nitrogen. that'll keep it cold enough so no-one will touch it till you get wherever your going.
atomiseve Posted March 30, 2007 Author Posted March 30, 2007 hmmmm... maybe I'll stick with the solid ice block and crushed cubes on top ... and mustard. Thanks all.
