blike Posted January 29, 2004 Posted January 29, 2004 Seem's as if the BBC is in a bit of hot water recently. I guess this hits closer to home for the british folk. What do you guys make of it?
atinymonkey Posted January 29, 2004 Posted January 29, 2004 Greg Dyke got all power hungry and managed not only to tarnish the BBC, but tarnish the journalistic reputation worldwide for the only multinational news corporation that's reputation was still intact. In short, he's a wingnut that managed to crumble the British reputation irreversibly on a global scale, and made me die a little inside. Or, scapegoat for the governments lies about Iraq? No. Just a twat. He should be flogged.
blike Posted January 29, 2004 Author Posted January 29, 2004 Rofl, why the kneejerk response? I don't really know much about him, but there was a huge segment on NPR (national public radio) about it yesterday that I listened to. Seems as if the BBC did falsely report some things--they even admitted to it and apologized. edit: falsely identify a source
blike Posted January 29, 2004 Author Posted January 29, 2004 Oh, to clarify, I'm not criticizing your reaction, I'm just ignorant on the subject. Does the man have a history or something?
atinymonkey Posted January 29, 2004 Posted January 29, 2004 Because I'm quite proud of the BBC, it keeps its prestige and global recognition above the other main players (ABC, NBC and FOX) even without the massive resources. It manages that because of it's integrity and trust. Now Greg Dyke has made the corporation look like a bunch idiots. Where is the international respect now? I mean, even on this forum, a link to a BBC article seems to be taken as gospel and nobody disputes it. Floodgates are open now, and they just made themselves fair game. Greg himself is just a suit though.
YT2095 Posted January 29, 2004 Posted January 29, 2004 the BBC may get my vote when they stop the stoooopid TV liscence fees, until then, they can all go down for me, it`ll free up space for a few more channels
blike Posted January 29, 2004 Author Posted January 29, 2004 I like the BBC. Many people here use it as a good source for news on US politics because its less likely to be slanted one way or another.
LuTze Posted January 29, 2004 Posted January 29, 2004 I'd love nothing more than to see that smug grin wiped of Tony Blair's face.
atinymonkey Posted January 29, 2004 Posted January 29, 2004 Wait for student fees at the end of the week, he can't keep dodging the bullet. His little legs will tire soon; and his cold black heart has already rebelled once. But we EXPECT Tony to lie. That’s the depressing thing. Just like we accept that Cherie Blair likes to suck the brain from baby skulls.
