-Demosthenes- Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 I'm sure someone cares, like ... no ... or him! no... you? no? Okay I guess no one cares.
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 Except maybe whoever made the thread. You do have a head, it's just there's nothing in it
-Demosthenes- Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 haahhahahahhahahaahaha. We're going to get in troble huh? I've gotten in trouble for psting o/t and putting a new thread where it should be before, I'm kinda paranoid now, it happens a lot to me. Maybe they know I'm a teenager, and know my mind wonders, that I have a short attention span, Hey look a butterfly! Just Kidding, but seriously, what were we talking about?
rmp2000v21 Posted February 2, 2004 Author Posted February 2, 2004 nothing like a good intellectual debate. it's fantastic that simply stating that something which seems obvious might not be true has caused so many people, who claim that they don't actually care about the question, to respond! surely scientists can think in realms other than the logic which they see in front of them??? A great philosopher once said "Imagination is more important than knowledge...", oh, no that was Albert Einstein...
-Demosthenes- Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 Told ya, I told huh? You can go back and read it, because I told ya. I'm sorry, it was Cap's Idea.
Sayonara Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 To get back on topic, you can no more "prove" you have a head than you can prove anything else (EG: that you exist at all). But all evidence points towards you having one insofar as we understand what heads are and where they come from. There are some more discussions of this nature in the Philosophy & Religion forum, and the Pseudoscience & Metaphysics forum - they might be helpful.
-Demosthenes- Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 I think that I have a head. So now that that's out of the way, so what bones. Why do we even have bones? I've never seen mine, hey! that almost ties in with the topic! Wait, no not really. You can see your head.
Sayonara Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 Let's not go off topic again. This might be 'General Discussions' but the OP asked a serious question. This would be the place for discussing the purpose of bones: http://www.scienceforums.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=44
-Demosthenes- Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 But if you think about it, you can't prove it. Not without some doubt. Some things you just have to have faith, hope it dosn't make you mad.
rmp2000v21 Posted February 2, 2004 Author Posted February 2, 2004 I kind of agree with demosthenes on this one, his quesion is kinda related. how do you know you have any skeleton whatsoever when you have never seen any part of it? ok, everyone else may have one, but why does that mean that it is 100% certain that you do? everyone is different right.
Sayonara Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 I was referring to "why do we even have bones?" really. You can of course extend the "head?" question to cover bones, kidneys - whatever you like.
greg1917 Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 Im sorry but theres a difference between having an opinion and being flat out wrong. By your logic, because ive never seen my great grandparents, they might not exist or have ever existed. This is absolute tosh. Asking whether the world around us is a valid philosophical question - but it breaks down when applied to specifics like your head or skeleton. Solipsism is the belief that self is the whole of reality - only I exist. Solipsism
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 If you want to prove it, you can cut yourself up!
rmp2000v21 Posted February 2, 2004 Author Posted February 2, 2004 perhaps we could all put faith in the assumption that you are in most respects the "same" as the rest of us (human), and you could cut yourself up then tell us what you find and we'll assume we're the same?
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 Well, if you didn't have bones you would be a meaty jelly. That's how you prove it.
rmp2000v21 Posted February 2, 2004 Author Posted February 2, 2004 i suspect that i do have bones, but for the sake of being devil's advocate: surely you can think of something else which might be there instead of bones which avoids me being a meaty jelly? bone shaped metal for instance?
-Demosthenes- Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 Or metal shaped bone. But seriously, we need to be serious, We have bones and a head as far as we are concerned. But I'm not tosh! That one really hurt.
greg1917 Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 I didnt call you tosh. The way rmp2000v21 is taking this idea is tosh. Thats whats tosh. You're not tosh. Do you think you're tosh?
-Demosthenes- Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 You think rmp2000v21 is tosh? His idea is tosh, but that was my idea too, is it tosh. What is tosh, is it like crap, is crap like tosh, tosh hurts people man.
greg1917 Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 Tosh is a british word meaning nonsense. I dont think you are tosh, i think the way this philosophical principle is being applied is tosh.
-Demosthenes- Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 I that they spoke English in Britain. What language is Tosh?
greg1917 Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 Um, they do speak English in Britain. Its where English originated and where the proper version still survives. I meant tosh is really only used by British people.
-Demosthenes- Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 The propper version of English? That really hurts.
greg1917 Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 You seem to take offence at a lot of the things I say. Im not sure why, but thats the third time you've said something hurts. And yes its the proper version. Colour has a U in it. I cant emphasise this enough.
