casimir effect please give me an answer

alright the Casimir is proven that light travels faster in an absence of matter faster than the universal constant of V so assume you have you have a three km long chamber encasing an electromagnetic field and you could accelerate an object to the speed of light then you removed the electromagnetic

field and it broke the glass at this point it is traveling at more than the speed of light which is against the laws of physics because it wasn't always traveling faster than light would it dilate at an equal rate to its declaration or will it

simply continue to move faster than light ?

Punctuation, please.

It sounds like you are referring to the Scharnhorst effect that would be seen in a Casimir vacuum, but that requires a conductive boundary, and AFAIK has not been experimentally verified because the effect is so small.

The wiki entry cites a reference (3) in claiming that causality would not be violated. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scharnhorst_effect

IMHO more than just photons! did you ever notice that things with casimir geometry like Rayney nickel are great catalysts? So maybe catalytic reactions are not faster they just take a relativistic route opposite in nature to an event horizon such that reactants spend hours in an exclusion field only to return and find mere moments have passed in normal space.

Quote:Scharnhorst has given a new twist to the Casimir effect by considering the velocity v of a photon travelling across the gap between the plates. If the plates are separated by a gap d, the Casimir effect suppresses all virtual photons with a wavelength of 2d or greater. Because these virtual photons are absent, they cannot participate in games of catch between virtual particles. Therefore a real photon travelling between the plates spends less time as an electron-positron pair because the QED vacuum fluctuations are suppressed. For this reason, the photon travels faster across the gap. Its speed of travel through normal vacuum is c, so its speed v in the negative energy vacuum between the plates is greater than c! Einstein's lightspeed barrier has been broached by a photon!

a.) AFAIK, the Scharnhorst effect applies only to photons, not matter (and in a Casimir gap, it is virtual particles that are excluded). Material objects are not absorbed by virtual particles and re-emitted, so we don't expect any velocity increase in a Casimir gap.

b.) You are not going to be able to accelerate any material object to the speed of light in a 3 km conduit. Consider what kind of acceleration would be required
