YT2095 Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 Unless it's an ideal solid. that answer has bugged me for DAYS! and I don`t know why??? I guess I was trying to figure out what the "Ideal solid" would be? I assume it means something that has no "gaps" or "empty space". the only thing I could come up with that seemed to fit that bill was a "blackhole" and that seemed like a cop out answer certainly one I`m dissatisfied with and also somewhat disappointed with myself with for not being able to comprehend an "Ideal solid" beyond that of a "blackhole". am I in error here, or is the answer just as mundane as that; a Black Hole?
Tesseract Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 I meant a word that explains how many sides, or if iui dosnt have sides what it has.If we had a word like that there would be no reason for this thread.
YT2095 Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 "Omnifaceted" here`s my new word invention to explain the side(s) of a Sphere actualy, if I wasn`t kidding about, I could fall for a word like that!
Tesseract Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 I wasnt serious about my post because this is a good debate. But a nice word like that would be helpful.
Duke Posted April 29, 2004 Posted April 29, 2004 Surely the 'Unisurphace' part of your new word means one sided
Sayonara Posted April 29, 2004 Posted April 29, 2004 Only if you think a side is the same as a surface.
YT2095 Posted April 29, 2004 Posted April 29, 2004 actualy, he`s right, it only has one outside surface 720 degress and as many facets as Pi is long
Tesseract Posted April 29, 2004 Posted April 29, 2004 I dont think Sayonara thought to much when he made his word up, to me it dosnt make sense. No offense, just saying. You probably didnt want to make it make sense anyway...
Tesseract Posted April 29, 2004 Posted April 29, 2004 Thank you, thank you very much. For your cynicism.
Sayonara Posted April 30, 2004 Posted April 30, 2004 I'm not being cynical, I'm saying you were right
Tesseract Posted April 30, 2004 Posted April 30, 2004 Oh..then thank you .Anyway back to my question how many sides.
bloodhound Posted May 2, 2004 Posted May 2, 2004 i still prefer to think of a sphere as a limiting form.
Dave Posted May 14, 2004 Posted May 14, 2004 Unfortunately it's not quite that simple - as I would hope this thread has demonstrated quite nicely.
YT2095 Posted May 14, 2004 Posted May 14, 2004 on a perceptual basis and still using the ideal solid model, it has 2 sides! the one you can see and the one you can`t! ) just thought I`de throw a spanner in the works to get the old grey matter working again
Tesseract Posted May 15, 2004 Posted May 15, 2004 I dont think a sphere has any sides.Just like cone or cylinder it has something else....Ill give it a name sside*. *stands for "super-side"
Dave Posted May 16, 2004 Posted May 16, 2004 I think we've more or less discussed this to the extent it can be discussed tbh.
bloodhound Posted May 16, 2004 Posted May 16, 2004 ok, its sorted then. spheres exists in a fractional dimension.
Dave Posted May 16, 2004 Posted May 16, 2004 I've now closed the thread unless anyone has any particular reason as to why it should be re-opened. If you do have one, PM me.
