brianmay27 Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Is there a way that you can make something out of house hold stuff (or cheep stuff) to make and collect o2?
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Yes. Split some water. It should only take a battery and a few other bits and you can do it. http://www.miniscience.com/projects/WaterElectrolise.htm
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 How much? You could also do things like decompose hydrogen peroxide, or any number of other things...
insane_alien Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 how much do you want? a litre? two? ten? more? we need to know quantities before we can tell you the best method for getting it
brianmay27 Posted June 9, 2007 Author Posted June 9, 2007 I am not sure... I was hoping to hook up a pump and hock it up to my welding tourch. So maybe enough to fill a 2 gal contaner. or something close to there
insane_alien Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 bucket(some kind of heat resistant plastic) of hydrogen peroxide, some copper mesh and a condenser to get rid of the steam. slowly add the copper mesh to the bucket till you get a reasonable rate of reaction(1 cm^2 at a time to start) then let the gasses given off go through the condenser to get rid of the steam and you should be left with O2
brianmay27 Posted June 10, 2007 Author Posted June 10, 2007 Something is wrong. It is going to be the store bought hydrogen peroxide, but i got nothing. If i am right about the store bought one, can you tell me where is a good place to get some? (if i can get some in a collage or a local store that would be better but if not a site would work.) BTW. it is 3% hydrogen peroxide

brianmay27 Posted June 10, 2007 Author Posted June 10, 2007 Yes. I put a 1/2 cup in a bowl. and put a penny in and copper wire in and notheing, not heat no bubbles... BTW just went out and got it. so it is still H2O2
insane_alien Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 try polishing the coin so its nice and shiny and clean. 3% isn't ideal but you should still get some bubble formation
YT2095 Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 throw in a chunk of Liver, or the black contents from the inside of a Zinc Carbon battery, you`ll get Plenty O2 then
