JackNC Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Does anyone know any substances that reflect all artificial light and can be applied to human tissue safely. I am a doctor and we are in need of such a chemical to conduct a study to look at the effects of artificial light on human tissue. Any pointers will be grately appreciated. Many thanks Jack
Klaynos Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 I'm going to assume that you can't put it into an evaporater because that'll damage the tissue too much? Have you considered some Al film, it's got a relatively flat reflectance spectrum. But What do you mean by reflect all, do you mean all the photons that hit it or equally well accross all wavelengths, or both? Does it have to be relecting or can you use an absorption material?
insane_alien Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 he mentions artificial light. only problem is, there is no difference. if you analyse a photon from the sun and a photon of the same wavelength from a light bulb you will find that they are exactly the same(might be polarised differently but that doesn't affect the properties much)

You might be able to find a material that screens according to a certain spectrum, but it won't "know" if the photons came from the sun vs coming from a light bulb. edit: ah, I see i_a snuck an essentially identical answer inahead of me while I was composing mine.
YT2095 Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 how about Aluminized Mylar? it`ll block all light like tinfoil will, but it`s non reactive (the stuff used in Hypothermia blankets).
