Solid state Oscilloscope...

YT2095

Recommended Posts

designed 25 years ago when I was 15, I`ve FINALLY gotten around to building it and testing it! I have some pictures Here:

now these next 2 pics aren`t very good but who cares

I`m running a simple 1KHz (rough) sinewave into it (and I`ve got the amplitude cranked to show all the display), obviously up close you can see the individual LEDs but from a distance it`s Perfect!

it`s also Moving too, the still pics show garbage really, as it does with a TV screen.

it uses 3 chips, a simple adjustable 555 timebase to clock the step sequencer for the X axis, and a 10 stage linear bar/dot driver.

the LED matrix takes a good afternoon to make! the rest can be done next morning.

there`s a selectable Sych lock and hold, AND you can even output to Audio ANY single part of any wave you want to listen to in REALTIME!

I`ve even stuck a longwire antenna on it and been able to select radio stations :)

I guess I wasn`t a Dumb teenager afterall!

I can get a clean single cycle displayed with a 111 Khz sine input from my sig-gen so far.

the device is still "Raw" but as I envisioned it, but 25 later I`ve learned a bit more and know how to make it a little better :)

in a way this is a kind of ending, a Promise kept.

I wish my friend was still around to see it, I introduced him to the idea of Digital electronics and this was a nice meeting point as it`s half analogue too, he was old at the time, but this idea made him Young again :)

anyway enough nonsense!

I`ve got was I was aiming for and better, I want to add perfect division stages now and an have the freq control set to just 1 octave only.

  • 1 month later...

Thanks :)

I`ve since fitted it with a 12 stage divide by 2 (per stage) rotary switch, so no now I can have the Original signal OR and division by 2, 4 8,16, 32 etc... for 12 stages.

I`m also part way there for an auto-synch lock too, where it will capture a waveform and freeze it realtime, as long as I`m reasonably within the vicinity of a harmonic of it.

Any possibility you can get a short video of it? I really like what you've done, YT. Hmm, I wonder what the possibility of getting many more smaller LEDs for resolution would be. Hmm, it'd be crazy to make laser lights shoot out and project to a larger wall. I wonder if that's economically feasible.

well the Vid would be more trouble than it`s worth the files even for 10 seconds always end up Massive!, as for the design, I can give you my parts list and explain how and why they go together, sure :)
