Doobuzz
Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows how you would go about creating zinc sulfide? I presume adding zinc to copper sulphate will result in zinc sulphate and i'm not all that crazy about smashing up a CRT screen for safety reasons Any advice? YT2095
usually with the direct reaction of zinc and sulpher as a powder and then heated. this reaction is Very exothermic and has been used as rocket fuel in the past, so it`s best done outdoors and in small quantities at a time (not more that a gram). YT2095
oh, and Do try to avoid getting it wet especially with acids when you`ve made it, Hydrogen Sulphide gas it quite unpleasant!
John Cuthber
Also, while it's hot make sure it doesn't oxidise in air and give zinc ozide and SO2. If you are trying to get something to glow in the dark then I think the big problem is that the real stuff is made in a rather complicated way to get the best performance.
