playing dos games turns off my pc

Most of the times I play dos games my pc all of a sudden just turns off on me without no reason. I was wondering what makes my pc turn and what could be a possible solution to this really annoying problem.

what games and what OS are you running. or are you using WINE on a *nix system?

classic 80's games, and I'm not sure what OS I'm running, how do I find out what WINE I'm using

what do you mean you don't know what operating system your using?

 

if you don't know what wine is then your not using it.

 

i'm going to go ahead and guess your using a version of windows and that it is one of the later editions on the NT kernel, probably XP home.

 

the reason something borks is likely because XP sucks the big one at backwards compatability.

OOOOHHHHH, Operating System my bad I thought it meant something else. Yeah I'm using XP home, so it suck huh, well do you know how I can fix the backwards compatabiliy.

You could try using DOSBox.

Thanks, but it's been kind of difficult for me to use it, but if it helps me play Wasteland with out my pc turning off on me well then, hello DOSBox.

I think I've even seen some kind of graphical user interface for dosbox where you only need to set the commands for each game once. I cannot remember what the program was called (I'm not even sure what it did exactly), but perhaps it's worth to you to look around for it (or something similar).

IIRC there's quite a selection of DOS emulators but I can't for life of me remember where to find a list of them, I think DOSbox is probably the best option though.
