I really want to start including more canned salmon in my diet. It's such a good deal. 35 grams of protein and lots of phenomenal fish oil, without the lemon cough syrup taste, in every serving. The only thing is the dreaded preservatives. However, the USDA lists it as "'generally recognized as safe', along with salt, vinegar, and baking powder," according to Wikipedia. Can this really be so bad, eating 2 cans of this per day? I really like salmon and this is definitely the best deal on it at $1-2 per can. Does anybody have any other information about it?

since canned food is sterile I wonder what they are adding a preservative for.

On the other hand, I wouldn't worry about it because there are plenty of other phosphates in food and they don't do any harm.

esp if it`s Salmon, you`ll have plenty Calcium Phosphate in there too, I`ve yet to see a can of salmon that didn`t have a few bones in (esp Spinal).

(tri)Sodium Phosphate will not harm you, it`s an acidity buffer, that`s all :)
