I discuss classical and quantum aspects of Yang-Mills theories in my first year report .

 

I suggest you have a look at it and the references.

 

Loosely, you should think of Yang-Mills theory as electromagnetism with many charges and an interacting "photon".

 

I worn you that looking into Yang-Mills theories without first knowing something about electromagnetism would be difficult.
