ydoaPs Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 That wouldn't really fit with any regularly used definition of '+' then would it? Roman Numerals I+I=II That wouldn't really fit with any regularly used definition of '+' then would it? Roman Numerals I+I=II
BenTheMan Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 hmmm 1 + 1 = 0 mod 1 or 1 + 1 = 0 mod 2. There. There's two cases.
martianxx Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 no there is a way where you start if assuming that A=B or somrthing, ill find out tommorow.
h4tt3n Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 I'm sorry... Isn't the fact that 1+1 = 2 derived empirically? As in " When I put one nut in the sack and then another nut, then I got two nuts in the sack." And logic is then a generalized system based on the above and similar empirically derived non-disputable facts?
insane_alien Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 if it is vector addition the value could be anywhere between 0 and 2.
thedarkshade Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 Yeah, I've seen stuff like that too! There is just one trick, dividing by zero. Just out numbers instead of variables and you will see that it actually doesn't work!
blike Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 Goodness people. Here you are bored_teen: http://mathforum.org/library/drmath/view/57110.html http://mathworld.wolfram.com/Fallacy.html

omnimutant Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 I was going to say, when the first 1 = one apple and the other 1 = one orange then you have 1+1 = Fruit Salad!
scienceguy69 Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 oh hey you guys i heard this forum was the place to be so i decided to join... to the point 1+1 obviously = 2 what are you on about /sigh thanks bye
Phi for All Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 oh hey you guys i heard this forum was the place to be so i decided to join... to the point 1+1 obviously = 2 what are you on about /sigh thanks byeJoining with two accounts is against the rules. I doubt your sincerity and you have a big strike against you, especially since your other account has already started calling people "idiots".
the tree Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 So, a quick summary of when [imath]1+1\neq 2[/imath]. When your working modulo <2 When by '+' you don't mean 'plus'As the logical operator AND, which I've always seen written as '^' which seems an awful lot less confusing. But write it however you like, whatever. (you'll note that I never challenged this) When you chose it to mean something completely random, which is okay, just boring. [*]When by '1' and '2' you don't mean '1' and '2'. This is stupid. (a 'I' doesn't look like a '1', srsly)[*]When you apply a fallacious 'proof', this is mega stupid.[*]When you are otherwise being stupid, or boring. Unless I've missed something, can we call this concluded?
Alchemist Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 1+1 = 10 There are 10 kinds of people: those that can read binary codes and those that can't!
Dave Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Unless I've missed something, can we call this concluded? Yes please. This thread should have been closed a looong time ago.
