Royston
This thread is just to share those possibly rare moments or hours, where all the responsibilites of the day are put aside (works over, kids are asleep et.c), and you get to do exactly what you want. For me, getting back from work sitting in the back garden with a huge cup of tea, and just pondering and enjoying the sun (although that's been sadly lacking recently...the sun that is) More recently, (after avoiding playing it for the last two years) I like to get up at the crack of dawn on Sunday, and emmerse myself in WOW for several hours, or late at night with a bottle of wine. SFN chat, if I'm in on a Friday, is always good fun. So what do you get up to, when you have some proper 'me time'...stiff whiskey and a good book, going for a jog late at night, tending the garden or simply putting your feet up and watching sci fi re-runs ? This is really about what 'you' do in or around home, so not involving anybody else (e.g with your 'other half' or going out with friends for example.) YT2095
I don`t really have any at all by your definition, I get the occasional Saturday morning when my wife goes shopping and takes my Daughter with her. then I spend my time in the Lab listening to Radio 4 having a beer and studying/experimenting. other than that, I`m never really alone. Phi for All
I've set myself up to where I'm almost always doing exactly what I want to do. I work for a medium sized company from a remote home office, my wife works part-time and my daughter is usually in school (summer day camps currently) so I'm alone during the day. When business and house duties are in a lull, reading is my preferred pastime, whether it's a good piece of fiction, a scan of a Scientific American article or logging on to read the brilliance here on SFN. If I can find a nearby stream to sit by I can really get in tune with a good author. Next would come playing Neverwinter Nights online with a combination of old friends and new acquaintances. I'm an old pnp D&D player so the new computer game system lets me play without all the time-consuming prep work. There are so many brilliant young people with more time than I have working on the NWN servers. Finally, I love watching movies, and my wife isn't always into everything I pick out from the library (Starship Troopers comes to mind). These movies I save for late at night or when wife and daughter are off bonding. *My* remote!
Glider
I like to spend 'me time' just wandering around my bonsai looking at the changes, musing on the next stage for each (but in a relaxed 'that might work' kind of way rather than writing fixed 'to-do' lists). Just enjoying them really. I might pick one out, put it on the turntable and study it in detail for another half an hour, but again, in a very relaxed way, not really thinking about anything in particular. I sometimes get really good ideas for non-related things during these times. That'll normally see me for a cup of coffee or two and is a nice way to wind down in the summer. I only have 45 or so, but as they're living things, they're always changing, so I never get bored with them. In the winter, I just drink heavily. Royston
I only have 45 or so Only ? Is that a modest number of bonzais relative to other bonzai lovers ? In the winter, I just drink heavily. Alcohol does tend to play a role in some of my 'me time' activites, unless you were talking about milshakes or horlicks or some other beverage. I can't believe I missed the obvious...posting on SFN. I really enjoy rapid fire posting...when I check the 'who's online' to see if they're replying to my post, and then rush in for the kill. If I can find a nearby stream to sit by I can really get in tune with a good author. I wish we had a stream nearby, that does sound very relaxing...the closest I have is listening to my housemate taking a piss, whilst I read some Terry Pratchett or physics and sometimes philosophy, I'm sure it's not quite the same experience. Glider
Only ? Is that a modest number of bonzais relative to other bonzai lovers ?Compared to some with larger gardens, yes. But I'm one of those who choose to develop them from scratch, rather than buy predeveloped trees (I only have 5 that are from bonsai nurseries and even then they were only trunk developed and haven't reached the refining stage yet). Developing them from scratch takes more attention (and so more time), but I think it's more rewarding. Alcohol does tend to play a role in some of my 'me time' activites, unless you were talking about milshakes or horlicks or some other beverage.Nope. I don't do winter well. Never seemed to get the hang of it, so I rely on self-medication (Jose Quervo). I can't believe I missed the obvious...posting on SFN. I really enjoy rapid fire posting...when I check the 'who's online' to see if they're replying to my post, and then rush in for the kill. Yeah...I don't tend to do the rushing in for the kill thing, but SFN and coffee is my usual waking up ritual.
