foodchain
Can you use sound of any frequency or amplitude for example to induce a chemical reaction?
insane_alien
generally they energy per molecule is pretty small compared to the overall motion of the molecules. sound can be used to agitate a mixture of reactants that would increase the rate of reaction. and then there is sound providing a trigger for a reaction (like a very sensitive explosive) the sound initially speeds up the decomposition of the compound until it is enough to sustain a runaway chain reaction. it could maybe also be used in separation methods. thats about all i can think of. in general, no. in a few specific cases, yes. John Cuthber
"Can you use sound of any frequency or amplitude for example to induce a chemical reaction?" Yes, it's called sonochemistry.
insane_alien
you always know you've missed a big one. yeah, google sonochemistry and you'll get a bunch of examples.
